Reading Books for Kids

I have some fond memories of reading great stories when I was young. I bet you do too. One of my favorite books was Charlotte’s Web. I think I read it 10 times. I stopped counting after eight. Reading books for kids will keep them thinking and entertained.

There are some great classics like Charlotte’s Web but there are new books all the time. A great speaker, Jim Rohn, once said that books are one of life’s great treasures. I wholeheartedly agree.

But treasures are exactly what we want to give our children and grandchildren, right? We know how valuable books are to the heart and mind and we would love to help instill that in them. And there are books on any topic so no matter what your grandchild is interested in, there’s a book to cater to that. Dragons, Princesses, adventure, animals, mysteries (this was and still is one of my favorites)… Just a few to start the ideas flowing.

I bring you some great books and even new ways to read them. Paper books, hardback, or even digital books (ebooks) are one of the best gifts for kids. Let’s get started.

Picture Books

Picture books made of fabric or board books are great, even for babies. As you sit and rock, you can show them the images and words to get them putting things together in their brains early. Some fabric books have varied textures which helps their tactile learning.

KidsBooks.com has some great books that are deeply discounted, so even if you’re wanting to donate some books to a local organization, you can get more for your money here. These choices are fabric or board books, perfect for tiny hands. I especially like the Poems for Tiny Ears book. 🙂

  1. Hi Paula,

Thank you for your recommendations here.

I loved Charlottes Web as a kid and I’m glad to see you recommending newer books here too so that I might know what to give as a gift.

My son is 14 and I’m interested in checking out the “I Survived” series that you mentioned. Do you think it’s suitable for a 14 year old? It’s not always easy to find books without sorcery and vampires.

Thanks, I’m bookmarking your site for future reference.

    • HI Alison,

Thanks for reading and leaving a question and your comments. For a 14 yr old, I found this one that is similar in book type but meant more for teens. It’s called Long Way Down . It has won several book awards so that means a lot. I think I’ll add a Teens section to the list. Thanks for letting me know there is a need for that.

  2. I remember that Charlotte Web was amongst my go to reads as I grew up. The list of recommended books in this article certainly looks appealing. Having a book suitable for every child according to their age is also ideal because they can challenge their minds at a newer level each time. I would love to get my niece one of these books as a Christmas present so I will revert to this page when I am ready. Thank you!
